Winter 2009 Newsletter

GLTWinter2009-1Great Land Trust is thrilled to announce that we have an opportunity to conserve a 60 acre coastal property in Anchorage containing Campbell Creek and Campbell Creek Estuary! The property is adjacent to the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge and also includes vast uplands with stunning views of the coast, Cook Inlet, and the Kenai Mountains. The Estuary boasts critical habitat for five species of salmon and the endangered population of the beluga whale.

We are working overtime to raise the $6.5 million necessary to purchase this property before our option expires in December 2010. After the property is purchased by GLT, we will donate title to the Municipality of Anchorage. It will then be turned into a new, public, 60 acre coastal park. Great Land Trust will place a conservation easement on the park to assure that it will be protected from development forever.

It is critical to have local support for this project to show our funders how important this project is to the community.
